On average, women look in the mirror thirty-four times a day. That means we see ourselves twelve thousand, four hundred and ten times every year. But what happens if you don’t always see the same person staring back at you? What if you see over twelve thousand different yous? Clearly then, not every reflection you see is real. So which one is?

Numbers. Numbers have always been my hamartia. My palms sweat just thinking about GCSE Maths and the horrors of endlessly trying to understand fractions, decimals and equations. Even now as a teacher when my form group asks for Maths help I begin to sweat. As a teen, I would have this recurring dream that I was stuck in an underground tunnel and I had to work out the diameter of the exit in order to be able to squeeze through. I would wake up breathless, agitated and terrified, so much so I would have to switch all my lights on and watch the parentally forbidden ‘Sex and the City’ series on my 14 inch Phillips TV. But numbers plagued me in a different way too.
What Happens After The Feared Smear?
As soon as we turn twenty-five we get the letter to tell us to get our smear- an important appointment we must all attend. But what happens after? What happens if you don’t get the all clear?
